Classes

Basic Classes

Cinnamon Twists
Whole Wheat Loaves

These are the two foundational sourdough classes I teach for adults and families. Both classes focus on the basics of sourdough bread making and are designed to be approachable, hands-on, and fun.

Basic Sourdough Cinnamon Twist

Length: 1¾ hours

In this class, you’ll learn the basics of sourdough bread making while creating your own cinnamon twist from start to finish. It’s a great introduction to working with sourdough dough and shaping techniques, with a delicious result to take home.

Basic Sourdough Whole Wheat Loaf

Length: 1¾ hours

This class focuses on learning the fundamentals of sourdough while I teach you how to make an artisan-style whole wheat loaf and rolls. Each guest makes a couple of rolls using the same dough, and the whole class gets to enjoy a loaf that I’ve baked ahead of time.

Kids Classes

Pizza
Soft Pretzels
Cinnamon Twists

Kids’ sourdough classes are different from adult classes and are always hosted in your home. You choose the date and time, invite the children you’d like, and provide one adult helper to assist during the class. Classes require a minimum of four children and a maximum of six.

Each child gets to make their own sourdough creation, choosing from:

  • Cinnamon twists

  • Pop tarts

  • Pizzas

  • Soft pretzels

Along the way, the kids learn a little bit of the science behind sourdough starter. They don’t take a starter home, but I love watching their jaws drop when they realize they’re making sourdough from what feels like thin air.

Each class also includes time for kids to design their own chef’s hat and enjoy a charming children’s story about a village that ends up with far too much starter — a fun way to wrap up the experience and spark their imagination.

Advanced Classes

Cinnamon Rolls

This class teaches a simple, flexible way to make sourdough sweet rolls on your schedule. You’ll learn every step of the process, including how to bake them the same day or use a cold ferment so they’re ready fresh in the morning. We’ll also bake rolls from dough I’ve fermented ahead of time so you can enjoy them straight out of the oven.

Pizza

Learn how to make sourdough pizza with friends in a fun, relaxed setting. We’ll make dough together, you’ll form your own pizza, choose your toppings, and eat your creation. I’ll also teach my tips for homemade sauce, cooking methods, freezing dough, and how to host your own sourdough pizza party. For allergy reasons, you’ll provide your own toppings.

Scones

In this class, you’ll learn how to make chocolate chip sourdough scones. As with all of my classes, you’ll receive the recipe and ongoing support after the class if you have questions once you start baking at home.

Baked Cheese Ring

This class focuses on creating a beautiful and delicious hors d’oeuvre. You’ll participate in every step of making the sourdough bread ring, and once it’s baked, you’ll get to enjoy it warm with friends, colleagues, or family.

Bagels

Learn how to make, shape, boil, and bake your own sourdough bagels. It’s much easier than most people think! Like many sourdough baked goods, bagels freeze beautifully if you don’t eat them right away.

Soft Pretzels

This is one of my favorite classes because you get to lift and flip the rope of dough in the air — kind of like a jump rope, but without the jumping! You’ll see every step of the process, make several pretzels of your own, and go home with the recipe.

Pitta Bread + Two Kinds of Hummus

Once you make sourdough pita bread, you’ll never want store-bought again. In this class, you’ll learn how to make sourdough pita from start to finish, enjoy two different kinds of hummus, and receive the recipes for both. You’ll make your own pita to eat fresh with the hummus while learning every step of the process.

You don’t need to have taken one of my Basic Sourdough classes to join an advanced class, but you do need to have experience working with sourdough starter. I won’t be teaching how to feed or maintain a starter in these classes — though if you ever need starter, I’m always happy to give you some.

These classes are hands-on and designed for bakers who are ready to expand what they can do with sourdough beyond basic loaves.
